Government has awarded teachers a salary increment that range from between 4.3 percent to 19. 4 percent.

This came to light during the signing of the 2016 improved salaries and conditions collective agreement between government and four teacher unions.

The four teacher Unions include the Zambia National Union of Teachers – ZNUT- , Basic education Teachers Union-BETUZ, Professional Teachers’ Union of Zambia and the secondary Schools union of Zambia.

General Education Permanent Secretary Chishimba Nkole who signed on behalf of government said the increment has been done taking into account the harmonization of salary grades across the public service for officers with similar qualifications.

And speaking on behalf of the Union BETUZ President Cosmas Mukuka thanked teachers for their patience during the negotiation period and advised them against political inclination but rather work with the government of the day .

And Public Service Management Division Permanent Secretary Velepi Mtonga thanked the unions for negotiating within the available resource envelop.
