Government has summoned Airtel, Zamtel and MTN for failure to meet minimum standards of quality of service in most parts of the country.

President Edgar Lungu’s Special Assistance for Project implementation and Monitoring Lucky Mulusa says it has come to Government’s attention that the poor quality of service by the three mobile service providers has made communication difficult for people.

Mr. Mulusa has threatened that government will have no alternative but to consider engaging a fourth mobile service provider if the three firms do not improve their services.

He was speaking shortly after a closed door meeting with the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority -ZICTA- and management teams from the three mobile service providers.

And ZICTA Director General Margaret Mudenda urged the service providers to improve in their services to their customers.

Meanwhile Airtel Managing Director Peter Correia disclosed that Airtel has set about 56 million U.S dollars aside meant to improve and expand the communication system.
