A LOCAL court in Lusaka heard how a church leader took advantage of his hospitalized wife to start sleeping with her niece who came from the village.
This was in a matter in which Agnes Mwanza, 28, a hair dresser of Luangwa compound sued her husband, Isaac Mulilo, 37, of Emmasdale in the Matero Local Court for divorce.
Mulilo said that he still loved Mwanza.
The two got married in 2010 and have one child. Dowry was partly paid.
Mulio however denied making love to his wife’s niece but only made advances because he was enticed by the underwear she was drying in the sitting room where she used to spend her nights.
Mwanza told Senior Court Magistrate Pauline Newa that she never had peace in her marriage because Mulilo started beating her when her son was three weeks old.
She explained that in June 2015 she had ovary problem and was admitted at a local hospital and that was the period her husband took advantage of the situation to start sleeping with her niece

“The other day around 04.00 hours I became suspicious when he woke up and followed my niece and later on he got a basin of water and went outside to wash himself.
“When I followed him he told me that he had developed diarrhoea. When I later left for work my niece escorted me and on the way she explained to me that Mulilo has been making love to her when I was in hospital and that he told her that she should not go back to the village as he will be giving her his salary,” said Mwanza.
“Mulilo is a leader at the church; I went to tell the bishop thinking my husband will come back home. It shocked me most for Mulilo to make love to my own blood relative,” she said
The couple separated on June 10, 2015. But for six years in marriage Mwanza said she was the one who was buying everything in the home.
In defence, Mulilo said that he had a problem with women but Mwanza was quick to react whenever she heard anything about him without gathering evidence.
“Recently I found a man in the house and my son told me that he usually comes to pick Mwanza. I later chased him,” said Mulilo.
Magistrate Newa said that there was mistrust in the marriage because Mwanza at one time told Mulilo that he was going for prostitutes and Mulilo also said he found Mwanza kissing another man in a vehicle.
She granted the couple divorce ordering Mulilo to compensate Mwanza with K7000 with initial payment of K1000 followed by monthly instalments of K300 and to be paying child maintenance fee of K300 per month.
