Former Patriotic Front Media and Publicity Director Brian Hapunda has been accused of leaking sensitive information to the United Party for National Development (UPND) after a recording of him transmitting data to a senior opposition political party operative surfaced last evening.
In a 9 minute detailed conversation between Hapunda and UPND Lusaka Province Youth League Co-coordinator Ephraim Shakafuswa, Hapunda can be heard briefing Shakafuswa on President Edgar Lungu’s Special Assistant for Political Affairs Kaizer Zulu, State House Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Chilubanama and PF Secretary General Davies Chama whom he claims were partly responsible for his firing.
But sources close to the development say the trio have been making efforts to reach out to Hapunda and have him incorporated in party activities so that he does not feel left out only to ‘stab them in the back’.
“We are utterly shocked at Hapunda’s actions, the same people he was speaking ill of in the recording are the ones that have been making efforts to have the young man not feel left out, infact they even graciously sent him to Solwezi to help the party campaigns, why would he do that?, he says PS Chilubanama was in Solwezi when infact the man is out of the country on national duties, Kaizer was no where near that plane, why would Brian stab them in the back?” the source said.
When confronted about the recording by his colleagues in Solwezi West, Hapunda refused and protested he was being framed over the matter.
But a voice recognition that was quickly run through on the recording shows a striking similarity to him and the numbers that were used in the conversation.
This is the second recording involving Shakafuswa, brother to UPND Katuba Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa.
In the run up to the hotly contested Presidential election, another recording emerged of him and Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba.
