Lusaka Police yesterday fought running battles with UPND cadres, who had converged at the Central Police Station, where Chongwe Member of Parliament, Sylvia Masebo is currently detained.

Police in riot gear were forced to use tear gas to disperse the cadres.

Business in the surrounding areas, including the flow of traffic on Church road, briefly came to a standstill, as the cadres scampered into Levy Junction Shopping Mall.

The cadres had gathered at Central Police Station, in solidarity with Ms Masebo, where she is still detained, after she was arrested and charged yesterday.

By broadcast time, calm had however returned.

On Tueday Lusaka Province Police commissioner, Charity Katanga told TV 2 news by telephone that Ms Masebo was charged for conducting an illegal public procession.
