A TEAM of officers from the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has left for South Africa for the printing of the ballot papers for Solwezi West and Lubansenshi parliamentary by-elections on September 24, this year.

ECZ public relations manager Chris Akufuna said in an interview that the ballot papers will be printed by Ren-form CC Printers which has a running contract with the commission.
The printing of ballot papers follows the successful filing in of nominations by candidates from participating political parties.
The Solwezi West seat fell vacant after the death of MMD’s Humphrey Mwanza while the Lubansenshi one which was held by Independent parliamentarian, Patrick Mucheleka was nullified by the Supreme Court for election malpractices.

Representatives of political parties participating in the by-elections and other interested parties would witness the printing of ballot papers which starts today.
Mr Akufuna said the printed documents were expected in the country next weekend.
Mr Akufuna said ECZ would tomorrow hold a meeting with stakeholders to update them on the latest developments concerning the voter registration exercise.
The meeting would be held at Mulungushi International Conference Center (MICC) in Lusaka.
