CALM fell over a Lusaka local court at the weekend when a housewife narrated how she shoved off her husband from his girlfriend after she found them making love in the bush.

This is in a case in which Priscilla Mwila, 28, of Garden House compound has sued her husband, Misheck Bwalya, 34, for divorce due to his promiscous life.

The two got married in 1995 and have three children. Dowry was paid.
Mwila told Senior Court Magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with Magistrate Daniel Phiri at Kanyama Local Court that all was well when they married in the village in Kasama.

She told the court that troubles in ther marriage started sometimes in 1999 when she found Bwalya on top of his girlfriend making love in the bush.
She explained that in the same year she found him with two different girlfriends and that he has been beating her over the same incidents.
Mwila further told the court that in 2005 they went to stay on the Copperbelt but Bwalya never stopped having extra marital affairs.

“In 2008 when we shifted back to Lusaka I used to find Bwalya with different women each day and he is fond of sleeping out and would come home after three days with a bag of mealie meal and a small plastic carrier of charcoal,”

“After I sued him he chased me from the bedroom and I have been sleeping in the sitting room for two months because he says I am not a woman and that I am outside coverage area. He has impregnated his girlfriend,” said Mwila.

In cross-examination, Mwila said that they sat on nine occassions and at one the sittings Bwalya admitted having impregnated a girlfriend.
The couple has not made love for two months.
In defence, Bwalya denied being caught red handed with girlfriend in the bush but explained that problems started last year when Mwila got a job and started arriving home at 19:30 hours.

He said his wife always complained of being tired to do domestic chores, adding that she also became boastful.
Bwalya further denied having chased Mwila from the bedroom but that she shifted on her own.

In submission, Mwila said that she wanted to divorce Bwalya because he beats her but her husband said that he still loved her.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Ackim Phiri said that Mwila had told the court that Bwalya changes women like shirts and that they had stayed for two months without making love showing that marriage has already been dissolved.

He said that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and granted the couple divorce ordering Bwalya to maintain Mwila with K200 for two years and to be paying children maintenance fee of K400 per month. Property acquired together to be shared equally.
