Three miners have suffered burns at Mopani Copper Mine-MCM-Nkana division in Kitwe following an accident.

The accident happened when the three electrical artisans were working on a faulty substation at the plant at around 19 hours on Thursday.

Kitwe District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe has confirmed the accident at Mopani in an interview with ZNBC News in Kitwe.

Mr. Kabwe says preliminary investigations by the Mine Safety Department indicate that the accident was caused by human error.

He said the three injured miners are currently receiving medical attention at Wusakile Mine Hospital in Kitwe.

Mr. Kabwe has regretted the rise in mine accidents at Mopani adding that the latest accident could have been avoided if safety practices were observed.

Mopani Copper Mines Spokesperson Cephas Sinyangwe has promised to give a detailed report on the latest accident at the mine.

  1. The spate of accidents are an indicator of loopholes in the entire system in the company. Right from personnel that shotlists applications to the shotlisted, eventually, employed. Then through into the business players ie sups, engineers, foremen, shift bosses, artisans, safety officers etc. Systems are there but for pressure, shortcuts, innexperience etc.
