POLICE in Kasama yesterday interviewed United Party for National Development (UPND) vice-president for administration Geoffrey Mwamba and advised him against holding meetings without notifying them.

And Northern Province acting commissioner of police Lackson Sakala has maintained that Mr Mwamba on Monday ran away from the police and hid in his house.

Mr Mwamba arrived at Kasama Central Police Station around 12:00 hours in the company of his wife and UPND cadres.

The interview lasted for about 45 minutes.
After the interview, Mr Mwamba told journalists that he had not gone into hiding.
He also said he was not campaigning in the market but merely went to buy fish.

And Mr Sakala said Mr Mwamba was summoned to the police station over allegations that he was holding illegal meetings in the markets.
“It has since been verified that he was just passing through buying fish,” Mr Sakala said.

He maintained that the police were looking for Mr Mwamba on Monday but he had allegedly gone into hiding.
“Mr Mwamba was approached by the officer-in-charge of Kasama

Central Police to accompany him so that we verify the allegations. But instead of him coming to the police station, he went straight to his home, where he actually locked his gate,” Mr Sakala said.
He advised all political parties to notify the police before holding public meetings.
