The opposition United Party for National Development have confirmed the worst kept secret in local politics by fielding former Lubansenshi Independent Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka as their candidate.

Mucheleka filed his nomination on the UPND ticket for the September 24 parliamentary by-election.
Below is UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s posting:
We thank all our teams that have sacrificed their time and resources across the country for the nomination of Hon. Patrick Mucheleka as our candidate for Lubansenshi Constituency in Luwingu’s Northern Province.

This also goes for local government bye elections candidates throughout the country.
Our prayers are to all our supporters is to mount a vigorous but peaceful campaigns. This is the same appeal we are making to our competitors to also be peaceful.
The law enforcement agencies must be impartial in handling matters of violence that have several times disadvantaged our campaign teams as has been the case in many places.

As UPND, we shall not accept unlawful activities in these areas as our patience has been tested for too long now where our competitors, especially the PF, are ready to use live ammunition and kill people just to win elections and prove they are still popular despite the harsh economic conditions our people go through.

And as demonstrated by the large turnout in Luwingu during Hon. Mucheleka’s nominations, one could really see that he is just a victim of state machinations on how the seat was suspiciously nullified purely because he decided to openly associate with us during the presidential bye election. We call on our people to honour the promise they were shouting today ‘lekeni umwine apwishe imilimo’.
