3 to contest Solwezi West

Voting in sparsely populated Zambezi-West parliamentary by-election started on schedule at 06:00 hours and at Mapashi polling station 45 people had cast their votes by 06:39 hours.

Three candidates yesterday successfully filled in nomination papers to contest the Solwezi West parliamentary by-elections, set for September 24, 2015.
The first to file in his nomination papers was Patriotic Front candidate Martin Mbaya, followed by John Njombi of UNIP.

 

The UPND’s Teddy Kansonso was the last to file in his papers between 14 and 15 hours this afternoon.
The independent candidate who was scheduled to file in nomination papers at 09:00 hours failed to turn up.

 

And MMD candidate Fordson Musele has withdrew from the race.
Mr Musele who should have filed in his nomination papers at 10 hours failed to turn up, but later showed up at about 12:50 hours and announced that he was withdrawing from the race, without giving any reasons.

 

He was immediately whisked away from the nomination centre by his supporters.
Meanwhile, Third Liberation Movement Candidate Enoch Chikatula has been barred from filling in his nomination papers because his party is using a symbol belonging to another political party.

 

Third Liberation Movement President Enoch Tonga has told ZNBC news in Solwezi that he will not back out of the race easily and will fight to stick to his party symbol.
The Solwezi West parliamentary by-election is scheduled for
September 24th.
The seat fail vacant after the death of area MP Humphrey Mwanza.
