POLICE in Mansa have arrested a 34-year-old man for allegedly snatching his choir mate’s three-year-old daughter and defiling her under the cover of darkness.
And a 50-year-old woman of Chembe has died after she was allegedly beaten by her husband after a marital dispute.

Luapula Province deputy commissioner of police Webby Shula said in an interview yesterday that Bowas Chishala, 34, of Mutiti village in chief Chimense’s area has been arrested for having carnal knowledge of his best friend’s daughter.
Mr Shula said the incident occurred around 18:45 hours on Friday near Mansa River in the small shallow curves around the foot bridge.

“The mother was busy plaiting her hair when the suspect pretended to be playing with the baby, and in the process whisked her away,” he said.
Chishala was interrogated by ‘a good Samaritan’ who threatened to beat him up before he led the passer-by to the child’s home around 21:20 hours.

Mr Shula said the suspect is in police custody pending court appearance.
The police chief warned mothers against entrusting men with their little girls.
Meanwhile, a man of Chembe has bolted after allegedly killing his wife after a marital dispute.

Mr Shula named the victim as Loveness Kaoma, 50, of Kazumba village who was allegedly beaten up by her husband, Godfrey Chilufya, around 14:00 hours on Friday and later died around 18:00 hours the same day.
“The matter was reported to the police yesterday [Saturday] by the couple’s son,” he said.
Police have since launched a man-hunt for Chilufya.
Mr Shula advised couples not to fight but rather find amicable ways of resolving differences.
