Zambia lose final game of Netball World Cup

FORMER national netball team coach Pauline Nsombo says poor coaching tactics contributed to Zambia’s dismal performance at the World Cup in Australia.

But Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) general secretary Pritchard Ngoma said Nsombo was sidelined for allegedly incompetence.
Nsombo, who guided the team to the World Cup, claimed Charles Zulu is a football coach.
Zulu was appointed coach prior to the World Cup.

“How can you send a football coach to the netball World Cup? That man [Zulu] was coaching Paramilitary football team and he does not understand netball,” said Nsombo in Lusaka yesterday.
She said Zambia could have competed favorably at the World Cup had the coach been abreast with modern techniques.

“The girls we have are very good. It is just poor coaching strategies that cost us at the World Cup. We worked so hard as a team to qualify for the tournament and it was sad I had to be chased a few weeks before the tournament,” Nsombo said.
Zambia lost to Uganda, Wales and Fiji in group matches before dropping to the rankings games where they won two and lost three to finish in 14th position.

“I did a lot of work to build the team. In fact I did 95 percent of the work and that man [Zulu] they brought did not even understand the players. I knew all of them well. We have to be serious when going for such big events,” Nsombo said.
Zulu could not be reached for a comment but Ngoma said Nsombo is bitter.

“Ask her who the head coach was in 2012 when we qualified for the Africa Cup where we almost upset Malawi. We will not tolerate her anymore,” Ngoma said.
He said Zulu has a level two qualification which Nsombo also has.
“It’s not a problem that someone is able to coach both boxing and football or basketball. Zulu has coached the netball national team several times before,” he said.

  1. Even the team was very weak, honestly speaking how do send grandmothers to the highly competitive tournament like that one?

  2. Let NSCZ investigate transparently and cage people who are being too thirsty for money.
