THERE WAS A NEAR PUNCH-UP IN KASAMA YESTERDAY BETWEEN UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (UPND) AND PATRIOTIC FRONT (PF) CADRES.

The fracas erupted after PF carders who were conducting a solidarity match around town in support of the ruling by parliament for declaring Kasama Constituency vacant collided near Shoprite with the UPND cadres led by Party President Hakainde Hichilema and his Vice Geoffrey Mwamba who are on a ten days mobilization tour in Northern Province.

The scuffle which lasted close to 30 minutes put the police in full riot gear under pressure to control the situation as cadres from both parties were becoming unruly.
And UPND Vice President for Administration, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba described the situation as unfortunate.
Mr Mwamba said what the PF exhibited was an indication that the ruling party has felt the presence of the opposition UPND.

But PF Provincial Treasurer Chomba Chipili said it was the opposition UPND which provoked his party.
Mr Chipili further alleged that it is the nature of the UPND to fuel violence saying it was the opposition party which intentionally blocked the way to their party office.
He called on people of Kasama to reject GBM’s style of politics which he termed as violent.

  1. Like once said, we would like the people of southern province to know that we will honour them by doing what exactly they did to us last January ,we have not forgotten how tribal politics were played. Now this time around its our turn ,so the have to feel it and must learn to respect us. The same message they were carrying around of not voting for a non Tonga will be applied this side of the country with just a few words changed but the same message. If you live in a glass house do not throw stones.
