Some remains of four miners who died in an underground rock fall accident at Mopani mine on Monday have been retrieved.

According to a press statement issued by Mopani Copper Mines yesterday: “The recovery operation has continued and is showing some progress. The rescue teams have retrieved some remains that are yet to be identified.”

Mopani also says collection of data for the formal investigation into the cause of the incident has continued and the company is working closely with the local emergency services and relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, acting Copperbelt permanent secretary Elias Kamanga has assured the nation, especially the relatives of the Mopani mine accident on the Copperbelt, that government and mine owners are working 24 hours daily to retrieve the bodies of the deceased miners.
