AFTER getting fade up of playing the role of head of house for 16 years due to her husband’s failure to provide for the family, a woman aged 37, has sued for divorce.

Majory Nakazwe of Mtendere township told the Chelstone Local Court that she was tired of living with an irresponsible husband who cannot pay rentals, education fees for their three children and buy her clothes.
Nakazwe said this before presiding magistrate Hope Mwila and Senior Magistrate Iñutu Mulenga in a case in which she sued Mutale Kangwa, 40, also of the same township for divorce.

The two have been married since 1998. He paid K200 dowry and has a balance of K600.
Nakazwe further narrated that her marriage to Kangwa was blissful before he got a job but that his behaviour changed after he got employment.

“Both families have sat down on several occasions to discuss our issues but to no avail. We had been on separation for six months before he finally deserted me,” she said.
And Kangwa also told the court that he wanted the marriage to end, citing his wife’s unfaithfulness, dishonest and lack of respect towards him.

He said his wife mocks him in the presence of their children accusing him of not being man enough.
“We stayed for a year without having sex as she denied me my conjugal rights. She would always give lame excuses of being tired,” Kangwa said.
He admitted to inadequately providing for his family since the duo separated.

And when asked by the court where he has been living since he deserted his wife and children, Kangwa responded to the amazement of the court that he was being kept by a friend.
Passing judgment, the court established lack of love between the couple as they lived for a long time without having sex.

The court also observed that the decision by Kangwa to desert his wife was an indication of lack of commitment towards the marriage.
The court ordered Kangwa to compensate Nakazwe K12,000 and child support of K300 per month.
