Meningitis has broken out in Mufumbwe after being contained in the neighbouring Kabompo district in North Western Province.

Ministry of Education Spokesperson Hillary Chipango says health authorities in the district have not closed Kalende Primary because the type of meningitis is not as contagious as the one recorded in Kabompo.

Mr. Chipango says according to information from the North Western Provincial Education Office one pupil is still in hospital.

He says schools are running normally in Mufumbwe adding that the situation is under control.

Meanwhile, Mufumbwe Member of Parliament Steven Masumba is worried about the state of cells at Mufumbwe Police Post.

Mr. Masumba says there is need to have proper police holding cells because any person can come in conflict with the law at any time.

He has since praised government in the district for embarking on the construction of a holding cell for males so that the existing structure is left for women.
