PATRIOTIC Front (PF) secretary-general Davies Chama has described as misguided, attacks by Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi on President Lungu.

Mr Chama said Ms Nawakwi has lost direction and it is unfortunate that the opposition leader has resorted to insulting President Lungu and the PF administration.

He was reacting to Ms Nawakwi’s reported sentiments that President Lungu is allegedly flirting with evil and the way he is treating Zambians is not in biblical context.
“It is unfortunate that Ms Nawakwi has decided to continue insulting President Lungu and condemning his trips abroad without taking into consideration the benefits of such trips,” Mr Chama said.

He said the trips abroad that President Lungu is undertaking are beneficial for Zambia.
He said while in Mozambique, President Lungu discussed with his Mozambican counterpart Filipe Nyusi on the possibility of that country helping Zambia with power supply.

Mr Chama said Mozambique has excess power and that it is through such trips that President Lungu is able to discuss with his counterparts on importation of power.

“With all these, Ms Nawakwi is unable to appreciate all efforts President Lungu is making to better Zambia and its people,” he said.
Mr Chama said it is unfortunate that Ms Nawakwi has not provided positive criticism to the government since she lost the Presidential election on January 20, 2015.

“Even issues of taxes, she has been in the forefront stopping people from paying tax. What does she want?” Mr Chama said.
He said as a former Minister of Finance, Ms Nawakwi should be the last person to incite citizens against paying of taxes.

“As Minister of Finance, she messed up the economy and she is ashamed to see Government working just three years in office with a lot of projects achieved.
“Ms Nawakwi’s language is not appropriate for a woman and if she wants to disgrace herself, she should continue with such bad behaviour,” Mr Chama said.

And chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili said Government has adopted a stance of not responding to Ms Nakakwi’s irrational accusations and rantings.

Mr Kambwili said Ms Nawakwi’s sentiments are uncalled for and baseless.
“Never argue with a fool because on-lookers may not be able to tell the difference. This is the approach we have taken on Ms Nawakwi’s rantings,” he said.

Mr Kambwili, who is Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said Ms Nawakwi was Minister of Finance in President Frederick Chiluba’s administration but she never condemned foreign trips that the former President undertook.

“What morality does she have to condemn President Lungu’s trips when she can even see the fruits of such trips?” he said.
The minister also said that Ms Nawakwi is allegedly being used by a tabloid newspaper to attempt to destroy the ruling PF while building the Rainbow Party.

Mr Kambwili said the FDD leader has no good political reputation because she cannot even respect her party’s constitution.
He said Ms Nawakwi has contested elections on four occasions and she is still at the helm of the FDD because she allegedly does not respect her party constitution.
