The Bank of Zambia will by the end of this year introduce banknotes with special marks to help the visually impaired persons to distinguish them.

The special marks will be in the form of slanting lines printed in intaglio or raised ink.

Each denomination will bear a certain number of lines with two Kwacha note having two lines while a five Kwacha note will have three lines.

The ten Kwacha note will have four lines with 20 Kwacha having six lines while 50 Kwacha will have six lines and the biggest denomination will seven lines.

Bank of Zambia Head of Public Relations Kanguya Mayondi has announced the development in an interview with ZNBC News at the on-going Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola.

Mr. Mayondi says the bank has taken steps to meet the needs of the blind people by including tactile features that denote each denomination in the family of Zambian bank notes.

He says it is the duty of the Central Bank to ensure that no one is de-franchised in accessing the country’s currency.

Mr. Mayondi has also clarified the current notes will remain in circulation and will be trading hand in hand with the notes with special features.

  1. There are impotant things to do on the currency.let it drop to aleast k3 against dollar.then do your new features on it..

  2. With which currency cause we don’t have the money to do that. The kwacha has no value as it is, why don’t you rather strengthen it than pimping it ????

  3. Wen did this become a need for our vision impaired brothers and sisters?….people, its time to work around policies that will restrengthen our kwacha unlike features. Our kwacha needs restoration of its confidence on the market. We don’t need any new features as those on it are too enough for a valueless currency like this one

  4. the is gud BOZ ….congratulations big up… some pipo will never appreciate any good tht comes as much as we know the kwacha depreciation here BOZ is talking about improving the physical notes and we must recommend and appreciatte zem

  5. I think the kwacha doesn’t need new features, it needs value to compete with other currencies of the world, put it measures to stabilize the economy, build industries empower farmers, empower the youths to be in manufacturing not just being cadres and praising politicians these are some of the features we must be talking about
