House set ablaze in unknown circumstances


Property worth thousands of kwacha has been burnt to ashes after unknown people set ablaze a house belonging to a 35-year-old man in Mpulungu district.


Northern Province Police Deputy Commissioner Alfred Nawa who confirmed the development to ZANIS in Kasama today said the incident happened in Kasakamuka village last Monday around 22:00 hours.


Mr. Nawa explained that on the material day, some unknown people burnt the house of Bernard Siame while he and his family were inside and that fortunately everyone escaped unhurt.

He however said all the property worth over K2, 000 including the grass thatched house were burnt to ashes.


Mr.Nawa said the motive behind the act is not yet known and police have intensified investigations in the matter.

Meanwhile, the Police Deputy Commissioner has also confirmed a case in which a 15-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a man of the same village in Mporokoso District.

Mr. Nawa named the suspect as Wedy Sichilima who is on the run and that a man hunt has since been launched.


He said the victim suffered injuries on her private parts and some general body pains.
