61 year old Chinese woman arrested over 300 mukula logs

A 61 year old Chinese business woman has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for unlawful possession of over 300 Mukula logs.

DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo said in a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today that Hu Lamei of Kasupe area in Lusaka was arrested by the Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit arrested for unlawful possession of the biological resources contrary to the Environmental Management act number 12 of 2011 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Hu Lamei jointly and whilst acting with other persons unknown on dates unknown but between 1st March and 6th March 2015 was found in possession of 346 Mukula logs without lawful authority.

The Chinese national appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court on 25thJune 2015 and pleaded not guilty.
Ms Katongo said the suspect will appear for trial on 9th July 2015.

And the Commission in Lusaka has also arrested two sales agents for money laundering involving over K100, 000.00.

Particulars of the offence are that Francis Mwanza and Harrison Lungu being sales agents of Yasin Investment Limited of Lusaka on dates unknown but between 1st April 2015 and 20th June 2015, jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown with intent to defraud did collect cooking oil worth k112, 697 from the said company which they sold and later used the money for personal gain to the detriment of the company.

The Commission also seized money amounting to K37, 100 Malawian Kwacha and K3, 700 Zambian Kwacha from the two suspects on account and belief that the said monies were proceeds of crime.

The two suspects also pleaded not guilty after appearing in the Lusaka Magistrate Court and the matter comes up for mention and continuation of trial on 10th and 17th July 2015 respectively..

Meanwhile, a 24 year old man Joseph Banda of 309/568 Kuku Compound in Lusaka has been arrested for trafficking in 7 rocks of cocaine and loose cannabis and will appear in court soon.
