Zambian youths to walk to South Africa to fundraise towards a skills centre

Fifteen youths from Shelter Africa –Zambia will next month embark on a fundraising walk from Lusaka to South Africa to fundraise towards the renovations of Vineyards skills training and income generation centre in Mazabuka.

Shelter Africa-Zambia, Programmes Coordinator, Raphael Phiri said the walk is intended to raise about K100,000 which will go towards the renovation and purchasing of banker beds and mattress for the centre that supports youths affected by  the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Mr. Phiri said the youths also want to intensify the awareness on the HIV/AIDS pandemic during the walk as it has continued to claim many lives especially among young people.

He said the walk will take about two months and the youths will be walking about 20km per day whilst holding road shows in all the towns they will pass through in Botswana and Zimbabwe via South Africa.

Mr. Phiri said the walk is dedicated to the youths of Sub-Saharan Africa affected by the deadly disease in an effort to change the story of HIV/AIDS in Africa.

He stated that it is time youths made bold decisions and efforts to eradicate the disease.

And Capital Fisheries, Marketing Manager Ngolwe Musonda said the company has arisen to the occasion to sponsor the walk as one way of giving back to the community through supporting efforts that are aimed at fighting the HIV/AIDS scourge.
