Over 600 members of the MMD have defected to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in Lundazi and Chipata districts of the Eastern Province.
Provincial chairperson Attany Mwamba told ZANIS in an interview that 600 members of the former ruling party led by ward Madison Bili yesterday in Lundazi defected to join the PF in Nthintimila ward.
Mr Mwamba said that Mr Bili also resigned from being Councillor, a position he held on the MMD ticket saying he wants to work with the ruling party due to the developmental programmes being initiated and implemented by President Edgar Lungu.

Mr Mwamba said all the 600 want to align themselves with the ruling party has it has proven to be a progressive party which has their interests at heart as it addresses real issues that affect them.
And in Mphomwa ward of Malambo constituency in Mambwe district, 42 members of the MMD led by ward chairlady Maggie Phiri this morning joined the PF.
Ms Phiri said there was no reason of clinging to the MMD which is currently not in a position to address the needs of the people.
In welcoming the 42, Mr Mwamba said the PF in the province will continue to embrace new members as politics is about numbers and that wining members will guarantee success of the party.

He welcomed all the new members saying more efforts should be done to ensure that numbers are increased at grass root level.
Mr Mwamba stated that the provincial leadership will work with the new members as the party increases its membership in the Eastern province.
