The Zambia Association of Musicians (MAZ) has urged musicians in the country to desist from singing songs with political connotations.

MAZ Publicity Secretary Mwembe Chulu of the Black Muntu fame, said musicians should avoid slandering people in their songs.

Mwembe told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that artists should be role models in society helping to foster unity and development.

Renowned Copperbelt based musician Chama Fumba alias Pilato has caused controversy after unleashing a politically charged hit song dubbed, ‘A Lungu Anabwera’.

The singer has been accused of disparaging Republican President Edgar Lungu in his song and bringing the highest office in the land to ridicule.

But Pilato denied defaming the Head of State with his song saying he was merely bringing out his message

The musician however says the intimidation coming from the ruling Patriotic Front membership and senior government officials will not deter him from speaking about the ills in the country.

Pilato has denied being neither a United Party for National Development sympathizer nor a politician alleging that politicians are the same.
