A CYCLIST has died in Choma after being knocked down by an inexperienced and unlicensed driver who lost control of the car he was driving.
Southern Province assistant commissioner of police Patson Mukomongo named the driver as Bheki Zulu Sibanda, 47, who was travelling from Choma to Namwala.
Mr Mukomongo said the unidentified cyclist died on the spot after sustaining head injuries and a fractured left leg. The body is in the Choma General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Meanwhile, police in Namwala have arrested three men armed with five guns in connection with the shooting to death of Shombe Shakopa, 47, of Shikafwe village in Chief Nalubamba’s area.
The deceased’s son, Sydney Shakopa, 28, is among the arrested persons.
Mr Shakopa was shot dead at his house on Monday night by unknown people, amid growing murders on witchcraft suspicion in rural areas.
Mr Mukomongo identified the other suspects arrested as Arnold Kasale, 30, of Chilindi village, and Sylvester Hamaambo, 51, of Moba village.
Police recovered three home-made guns and two shotguns, one of which belonged to the deceased.
