Three children of the same family aged between six and eleven years have been burnt to death in Chishimba village in Kasama district.

Northern Province Police Commissioner Alfred Nawa confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Kasama today.

Mr Nawa said the incident happened around 22:00 hours on Tuesday while the children were sleeping in a grass thatched house.

He revealed that the children had left a candle burning which led to the blankets catching fire and later spread to the entire house.

Mr. Nawa added that by the time the fire brigade and police got to the scene it was too late as the children had already died.

He named the victims as Bupe Mulenga aged 11, Veronica Mulenga who is 8 years old and the youngest Justine Mulenga aged six years.

Mr. Nawa appealed to the community to ensure candles are put off before sleeping to avoid such accidents from re-occurring.
