Ambassador Palan Mulonda officially presented Honorary Consul to California Robert Sichinga Jr. with his official Exequatur from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a small ceremony held at the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Washington DC. Mr. Robert Sichinga Jr. was appointed as Honorary Consul for the Republic of Zambia in California in late 2014.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Mulonda urged the Honorary Consul to work diligently to foster trade and investment between California and Zambia. He stressed the importance of California to Zambia’s economic growth.
He said because California is the largest and most diverse economy in the United States as well as the 9th largest economy in the world whose main industries cater to some of Zambia’s sectors of focus, it behooves Zambia to have greater presence in California. Ambassador Mulonda has emphasized the need for a more effective strategy to sale Zambia across the United States.
Honorary Consul Sichinga’s main area of focus is the fostering of trade and investment as well as building and maintaining favorable relationships between Zambia and the State of California. He is also tasked with being a resource to the Zambian Diaspora in California. This is the second Honorary Consulate in the United States after Colorado.
The ceremony was witnessed by Counsellor (Political and Consular), Mr Brian Mulenga, First Secretary (Trade), Mrs. Inonge Mwenya, First Secretary (Tourism), Mrs. Marsha Holdway and First Secretary(Political and Administration), Mr. Albert Ntemena.
