GOVERNMENT is holding discussions with foreign investors on the possibilities of reviving the defunct Mansa Batteries in Luapula Province.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe said Government wants to find means to revive the battery factory and provide a favourable investment climate for the would-be investors.
Ms Mwanakatwe said Government’s policy was not to run businesses but to create an enabling environment for investors .
“We are in discussions with potential investors for Mansa Batteries, we want to find a way to revive the company,” she said.

She said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that Government in its revival plan for the defunct factory was looking at not only producing batteries but also manganese which  had an existing market already.
Government wanted to make the value-chain longer as venturing into manganese production could be more profitable as there was an already existing market for the metal.
Two potential investors from South Africa had tabled proposals to revive Mansa Batteries but the process had slowed down due to inadequate power supply.

  1. Let us turn to solar power gadgets for the rural Mansa .Some serious inventions into solar technology with young scientist at technical college would help .the old Mansa dry batteries who would buy them anyway with all small cell phones come with supersonic radios .let us not continue visiting the past with the hope that it will bring us some lost glory , our glory is in future technology .
