A MAN of Ntindi village in chief Nawaitwika’s area in Nakonde is on the run after allegedly mutilating his wife’s genitals using a knife after a dispute.
Muchinga Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Cosam Musa, 45, and the victim as Florence Mutambo, 34.
Mr Daka said the incident happened on Monday around 20:00 hours and Ms Mutambo is receiving medical attention at Nakonde District Hospital.
“The couple had a marital dispute on that night, so the suspect got a knife and cut his wife on her private parts. She sustained injuries as a result,” Mr Daka said.
He said police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Meanwhile, in Samfya, police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly beating his friend to death at a bar after they quarreled and failed to agree on who was next in line to sponsor the next round of beer.
Luapula Province deputy commissioner of police Webby Shula said in an interview yesterday that John Mwape of Mutanda village was beaten by his friend, Kelvin Chibale, 22, of Kambalikila village in Mansa.
Mr Shula said the incident happened on Sunday around 14:00 hours while the two were at a bar.
“The two were at a local bar and a quarrel erupted over who should buy beer which led to a fight. The deceased was beaten badly, resulting in body and internal injuries,” he said.
He said Mwape was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Mr Shula said the body is in Samfya District Hospital. The suspect has been arrested.
