Zambian President Edgar Lungu yesterday officially opened the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair being held in the country’s second largest city, Bulawayo.

Mr. Lungu, who was accompanied at the event by President Robert Mugabe and several state officials, said trade between the two countries has been increasing over the years.

He noted that Zimbabwe exported goods worth $400 million to Zambia between 2010 and 2014 while his country sold commodities amounting to $1.3 billion to its neighbor during the same period

Mr. Lungu commended the fair’s theme this year saying it dovetails with efforts being made by regional leaders in adding value to their countries’ resources to boost growth and development.

He further commended the growing relations between the two nations, saying Zambia and Zimbabwe share a common history.

The annual event running under the theme: ‘Stimulating Trade: Seizing Opportunities to Accelarate Growth’, is being attended by hundreds of local exhibitors and some countries including Japan, Switerland, Indonesia, China, South Africa and others.-VOA
