The opposition Forum for Democratic Development-FDD has won the Mungwi Central local government by-election.

FDD’s Albert Mwansa emerged winner after polling 489 votes beating his closest rival Patriotic Front-PF’s Charles Makando who got 483 while UPND’s Gilbert Mfune trailed with 163.

UNIP’s Mutale Mpundu had 45 votes and MMD’s Annie Nkumbula only managed to get 18 votes.

Malole Constituency Returning Officer Lewis Kwenda declared Mr Mwansa as duly elected Mungwi Central Ward Councillor at 21:10 hours last night.

Mungwi Central seat fell vacant following the death of Chola Chilekwa.
