Government says it remains committed to ensuring that the distribution of the country’s resources is equally done to all the citizens across the country.

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Gerry Chanda said the Patriotic Front (PF) government was not selective in terms of delivering development in the country.

Colonel Chanda explained that government will strive to ensure that there is no discrimination involved when it comes to putting up infrastructure development for the betterment of the Zambian people.

He was speaking to Journalists in Chikankata district yesterday shortly after winding up his tour of some selected developmental projects under the Ministry of Home Affairs in Southern Province.

The Deputy Minister said he was satisfied with the on-going developmental projects he had seen in the province adding that he was hopeful that all contractors engaged would deliver quality works that would stand the test of time.

While in the province, Col Chanda visited the new Monze Open Air Prison Farm whose construction works are on-going and will accommodate 210 male inmates.

Col Chanda observed that Zambia had a very bad record in terms of keeping inmates in prisons due to overcrowding.

He said the situation was a serious matter as it showed that the country was still lagging behind in complying with human rights obligations.

Col Chanda said once commissioned, the Monze prison would help to decongest other prisons in the country so that sanity could prevail.

And Officer-In- Charge at Monze Open Air Prison Farm Levy Mwanza thanked government for funding the agro-projects at the prison farm.

Mr Mwanza disclosed that during the 2014/2015 farming season, the station cultivated 180 hectares of land to plant maize, cowpeas and beans including 40 grams of cabbages.

He said unfortunately, the expected produce of 14, 400 by 50kgs bags of white maize will not be realized because of the drought that was experienced for two months.

While in the province, the Deputy Minister also visited Kazungula, Livingstone, Zimba, Kalomo, Gwembe, Choma and Mazabuka districts.

Col Chanda advised uniformed officers to exhibit high levels of integrity as they perform their duties by avoiding all forms of corrupt practices and politics.
