British High Commissioner to Zambia James Thornton says it does not make sense for Zambia to hold a constitution referendum alongside the 2016 general elections.

Mr. Thornton notes that this is given the cost of running a national referendum.

He has told Qfm News by telephone that he thinks there are a number of different options to consider, but that it is not up to him to decide which option is the preferable one.

Mr. Thornton says it is up to the Zambian people to resolve this issue.

The British High Commissioner has also disclosed that the Zambian government has not yet approached the British government for support towards the holding of the constitution referendum.
