Church key to national development-Chungu

Lusaka, March 15, 2015,ZANIS…Deputy Minister in the office of the Vice President Lazarus Chungu says the Church plays a very important  role in the development of the nation.

Mr Chungu said the contribution of the Church in developmental projects was massive and deserves appreciation by everyone.

The deputy Minister said this today during a Charity fund raising braii for the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) St Peters Congregation held at Mama Kankasa Secondary School in Kabulonga.

ZANIS reports that Mr Chungu  said it was good that the proceeds which will be raised will be used to build a youth resource centre to help the young people.

Mr Chungu said this was in line with government policy of building many youth resource centres for the benefit of the young people who are the future leaders.

He said due to the viability of the Project United Church of Zambia Project, the Office of the Vice President had since contributed K3000.00 towards the same infrastructure.

And Mr Chungu has reiterated the need for the young people to avoid being used by selfish politicians to perpetuate violence in the country.

Mr Chungu stated that the young people are the future leaders and as such they need to behave responsibly for a better life.

He also urged the young people to denounce tribalism which is slowly manifesting in the nation.

He said the people of Zambia are one who are supposed to live as brothers and sisters as it has been the case since independence.

Speaking at the same function,  St Peters United  Church of Zambia Reverend Kingston Simwanza praised the Office of the Vice President for the contribution.

Rev. Simwanza said the contribution will go a long way and called on other co-operating partners to assist the Church to raise the funds for the Youth Centre.

He said the Youth Resource Centre which the Church intends to build will alleviate  much of the suffering being faced by young people.
