Kabompo, March 14, 2015, ZANIS– Youths in Kabompo district have appealed to the government to decentralize youth development funds to district level .
ZANIS reports that the youths have argued that decentralizing the disbursement process would enable many of them access the funds.
Kabompo district youth chairperson Chinyama Tepa said youths in the district feel neglected in many developmental aspects taking place in the country.
Mr Tepa said the youths in the district would appreciate if government constructed a college and a youth skills training centre to empower them to run their own enterprises instead of depending on government for sustainable employment opportunities that are scarce.
He was speaking in Kabompo during this year’s Youth Day celebrations under the theme “The youth: building a stable and sustainable future”.
Speaking at the same event, Kabompo district commissioner, Jackson Makupa said government was aware that if natured well, the youths have the ability to contribute to socio-economic development.
Mr Makupa said there is need to boost provision of entrepreneurship opportunities as
a viable option career in order to catch up with the high rate of youth population growth in the province.
He said in a bid to address the imbalance, government has stepped up the disbursement of youth development funds to support the youths in the development of their businesses, both small and medium enterprise in the private sector for wealth and employment opportunities.
