Government has said youths are an important resource to the development of a nation.

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba said this in Lusaka today when the president of the Pan-African Youth Union (PYU) Francine Muyumba paid a courtesy call on him at his office.

Ms. Muyumba is in the country ahead of the youth day celebrations and to introduce a 26 year old Zambian Dalisto Mbewe, who was voted PYU deputy secretary general for southern Africa.

Mr. Kalaba said it was an honour for the country to have a Zambian youth at such an organisation noting that this means that the nation will be ably represented.

He said government will give Mr. Mbewe the support he needs to perform his duties diligently and help the youths in the country.

Mr. Kalaba has since implored youths in the country to emulate Mr. Mbewe and take up leadership roles that will benefit them now and in future.

And PYU president Francine Muyumba said the role of her organisation was to ensure that youths were ably represented.

Ms. Muyumba has meanwhile commended Zambia for ratifying the youth charter which she says will help improve the welfare of young people.
