Mwinilunga to vaccinate more than 2,500 Dogs against Rabies

Mwinilunga, March 11th, 2015,  ZANIS —- The department of Veterinary in
Mwinilunga district of North-western province has embarked on a dog
vaccination exercise against rabies.

 


District Veterinary Officer Lubinda Inambao confirmed  in an interview
in Mwinilunga today.

 

Dr. Inambao said that over 2,500 dogs are expected to be vaccinated
adding that over K4000 has been set aside for the exercise.

 


He  said the exercise will run from 9th to 19th March, 2015
adding that all dog owners in the district are expected to take them
for vaccination and warned that after the exercise his department will
kill any stray dog.

 


He observed that the district has been recording alarming cases of dog
bites mostly by stray dogs with an average of 35 reports per month.

 


Dr Inambao said currently the district has a lot of stray dogs posing
a danger to the general public adding that according to the law people
are only allowed to own a maximum of two dogs.
