The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) says it will soon embark on sensitising and counselling residents in the infamous Chibolya compound than raiding it to help address the age old drug problem.

DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katonga told ZANIS in an interview that the Commission will soon initiate a communication strategy to stamp out drug abuse and related illegal activities in the drug-infested Chibolya Compound.

Ms Katongo said the Commission is expected to unveil the Communication Strategy in June, 2015.

She said the Commission will be sensitising residents on the dangers of drug abuse and human trafficking.

Ms Katongo regretted that children as young as 10 years have started injecting drugs, mainly cocaine and heroin into their bodies.

“We have realised that by simply arresting them, the residents have continued to abuse drugs and engage in all sorts of retrogressive vices. So we are planning to start educating them on the effects of such activities”, she said.

About three young persons have so far died from drug abuse in the notorious compound between December 2014 and March 2015.

Last year DEC, Zambia Police and other security wings conducted a raid in Chibolya to clean up the township of illicit activities.
