———–A senior government official in Mungwi
has hailed President Edgar Lungu for appointing more women to decision
making decisions.

Mungwi District Commissioner Joyce Chanda also expressed happiness that a good number of departments in the district were being headed by women.

Ms. Chanda was speaking during the International Women’s Day yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ms. Chanda said government is working tirelessly to ensure
that problems such as poverty, Gender Based Violence, poor access to
health services and early marriages are reduced.

Ms. Chanda stated that government together with its cooperating
partners has come up with measures to mitigate the suffering of women
especially in rural areas.

She added that the Ministries of Gender and Community Development have
come up with programmes to empower women in a bid to alleviate their
plight.

Ms. Chanda has since called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders
to fight problems faced by the majority of women.

And Malole Area Member of Parliament Christopher Yaluma, who is also Energy Minster, donated T-shirts and caps towards the commemoration.

This year’s International Women’s Day was celebrated under the
theme: Gender is my Agenda: Make it Happen.
