Five family members drown after boat capsized on Lake Bangweulu

March 8, ZANIS——————Five people of the same family
including a one year six months old baby have drowned on Lake
Bangweulu at Kampyongo area after the boat they were in capsized.


Pilius Mwansa 39, Marian Mwansa 37, Abyut  Kalaba 6, Morris Mwansa 3,
and one year six months baby Chileshe Mwansa all members of the
same family drowned on around
 18:00 hours after their boat capsized
due to overloading and bad weather.


Luapula Province Police Deputy Commissioner Webby Shula disclosing the incident to ZANIS in Mansa.

 

Mr. Shula said police managed to retrieve four of the bodies but one is still missing.


He said the five were coming from Chipako Village on their way to Semu Village in Twiingi when they met their fate.


He has since appealed to people using water transport to desist from overloading their boats as doing so would put their lives at risk.


In another development, a 27 year old man of Shapi Village in Chief Chimese in Mansa district has committed suicide after he was chased from his house by his wife for failing to make her pregnant.

 

Mr Shula identified the deceased as Lottie Mutimba who died after taking suspected poison.


Mr. Shula said the body of the deceased is lying in Mansa General Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death and Police have instituted investigations in the same matter.
