Government will soon recruit 500 health workers to improve staffing levels in health institutions across the country.

Community Development, Mother and Child Health Deputy Minister Obias Chisala said increased man power at clinics will help decongest hospitals and enhance the provision of quality health care services.

Mr. Chisala, who was accompanied by his permanent secretary Elwyn Chomba and other ministry officials, said this today when he made an impromptu visit to Chipata clinic in Lusaka’s Chipata compound to assess the implementation of health services in health centres.

He expressed satisfaction with the work attitude and culture of health personnel at the clinic.

Mr. Chisala disclosed that government will soon upgrade the clinic to a fully-fledged hospital in order to take health care services closer to the people.

He however cautioned health workers to refrain from ill treating patients and using bad language but to instead be sensitive and caring to patients.

This was after the residents had complained to the deputy minister about the harassment and ill-treatment they were allegedly subjected to at the hands of the health personnel at the clinic.
