——–Equipment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mbala General Hospital has broken down.

This came to light this morning when First lady Esther Lungu visited the hospital.

Hospital Superintendent Brian Mwansa told Mrs. Lungu that Doctors at Mbala General Hospital were facing difficulties in attending to patients in critical conditions.

Dr. Mwansa however informed the First Lady that hospital management has since put in place temporal measures to conduct emergency cases in view of the situation at the ICU section.

And in response, Mrs. Lungu said she was saddened by the development, saying the ICU section was a critical unit in the running of any health institution.

Mrs. Lungu appealed to the Ministry of Health to urgently look into the matter.

She also called on the staff at the hospital to continue working hard in order to improve the operations of the institution.

During the visit at the hospital, the First Lady who was accompanied by former First Lady Vera Chiluba and several Ministers’ spouses also visited patients in the maternity and female surgical wards and the children’s and female wards.

She is later in the day expected in Mpulungu district where she will meet women’s groups, the disabled and orphaned children.
