The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in 2014 recorded about one thousand two hundred and forty three (1,243) cases of child defilement.
UTH Public Relations Manager Mwenya Mulenga has disclosed to QFM News in an interview that the highest number was recorded in November with about one hundred and twelve (112) cases of defilement.
Mr. Mulenga says the statistics of child defilement are worrying considering that government and other stakeholders have put in place measures to combat the vice.
He says its high time government considered stiffening the punishment for defilement offenders in order to deter would be perpetrators.
Mr Mulenga says the UTH one stop center is doing everything possible to counsel victims of defilement considering the trauma they go through.
