The Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) has welcomed the revised school curriculum.

General Secretary Albert Muyembe told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka Wednesday that teachers’ country wide is ready to use the curriculum.

Mr. Muyembe said some schools have already received the books and they are already making use of them.

He pointed out that the revised curriculum is set in a simplified manner as it has subjects combined, such as geography, civics and history as one.

He has however bemoaned the shortage of staff in many schools especially those in rural areas, despite staff being ready for the new curriculum.

Mr. Muyembe said, there is need for the Ministry of Education to complete the distribution of the revised books soon especially to schools in rural areas as they are the most affected by poor transport system.

Government through the Ministry of Education and with the help of USAID in the year 2014 revised the curriculum which was in an effort to increase the performance of pupils.
