The victim, Jonas Mwenya of Kepiki village in Nsama who also confirmed the incident said he had gone to take a bath at a nearby river after coming from the field when he met his fate.
He said the reptile first bite his leg and tried to drag him into deeper waters.
Mwenya, however managed to overpower the reptile by holding onto its mouth before he managed to set himself free from the jaws of the reptile.
He added that he was a lucky man to be alive because he was not sure he would break free after the tussle with the animal which lasted for over five minutes.
Nsama District Commissioner Panji Chilingala also confirmed the attack adding that he would involve the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) to crop the dangerous animal.
Mr. Chilingala said the reptile was a danger to peoples’ lives in the area.
