Two die in traffic accidents

—A -27- years- old man of Mongu District in Western Province has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving over the week-end.

Western Province Deputy Commissioner of Police Lackson Sakala in an interview with ZANIS confirmed the accident and identified the driver as Grant Chaponda a male aged 27 years of Yeta compound of house number 17 in Mongu district of Western Province.

Mr Sakala said the accident happened around 22:20 hours along Lewanika road when Chaponda who was driving a BMW registration number ALX 8951 hit into an unidentified pedestrian who was crossing the road from East to West causing fatal injuries and died on the spot.

He said the deceased is in Lewanika General Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem whilst the driver is in police custody.

Meanwhile, another accident happened on Saturday in Kaoma district involving a 59 years old man named John Zimba of Makeni in Lusaka who was driving a Ford Ranger registration number ALV 570 along Mongu –Lusaka road.

This accident claims the life of a juvenile identified as Chindumba Musole aged 6 years of Kankwanda area who was hit while crossing the road at around 17:20 hours and the driver has been detained in police custody in Kaoma for causing death by dangerous driving.
