The Zambian Voice has charged that people that are not in good books with the law should never ascend to high standing public offices.

Zambian Voice executive director Chilufya Tayali said that questionable people should not occupy high positions not even on the basis of any form of patronage.

He said such developments put the constitution as well as the judicial system in an awkward situation.

Mr TayaIi said  in a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today that from the on-set,  the Zambian voice has always been of the view that the ratification and controversial ascension of Mutembo Nchito as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)  was not done in good faith considering several court case issues that still surround him to date.

He said his organisation strongly opposed the appointment of Mr Nchito as DPP and wrote to the late President Michael Sata stating that there was incriminating evidence that Mr Nchito was in bad taste with the law and his appointment was questionable.

Mr Tayali said Mr Nchito’s appointment came at a time when government commenced civil and criminal proceedings against him as Zambia Airways Chief Executive Officer.

He said Mr Nchito was not eligible for the position and that some of the appointments the Executive was making at that particular time were just as good as shooting themselves in the foot.

Mr Tayali said Mt Nchito’s arrest was long overdue further stating that with the new Chief Justice who is held in high esteem justice would prevail.

Yesterday, a Chongwe Subordinate Court issued a warrant of arrest for Mr Nchito for alleged abuse of authority of office, procuring execution of documents by false pretences and fraudulently contracting of debt.

And Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani  has since said police have received the warrant and will execute it.
