Timber worth K13,000.00 burnt to ashes

Nchelenge, Feb 5, 2015, ZANIS—Timber worth over Thirteen Thousand Kwacha (K13, 000) has been gutted to ashes in a suspected case of arson in Nchelenge district of Luapula province.

Luapula Province Commissioner of Police Malcolm Mulenga said officers in Nchelenge are investigating a case of suspected arson in which building materials among them planks valued at K13, 600 were destroyed.

Confirming the development in a statement to ZANIS today, Mr. Mulenga said a grass thatched house in which the timber was kept at Kabulo village in Kambwali Chiefdom is suspected to have been set on fire by unknown people.

He said the incident occurred between Tuesday around 19: 00 hours and the early hours of Wednesday and was reported at Nchelenge Police Station by Titus Kapya of Dyson village in Kambwali Chiefdom.

The Luapula province Police Chief said Kapya complained that his grass thatched house where he kept materials among them the said timber at Kabulo village in Kambwali Chiefdom had been set on fire by unknown people.

Commissioner Mulenga said a visit at the scene by the police found piles of ashes resulting from the gutted timber.
