Police has deployed officers in markets countrywide to clamp down on violence among political party cadres.

Police Spokesperson Charity Chanda told ZANIS in an interview that officers have been positioned in every part of the country to maintain law and order.

She warned that perpetrators of violence will face the full weight of the law regardless of their political affiliation if they do not cease the acts.

Ms Chanda also urged victims not to rush to the media to issue statements but report the matter to the nearest police stations.

Violence erupted in some parts of the country prior to and after the just ended presidential elections.

The violence is allegedly perpetuated and confined to Patriotic Front (PF) and the United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres.

President Lungu last week called for a cease fire to the violence and directed police to move in and quell any acts of violence.
