—–Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba, has commended ChildFund-Zambia for supplementing government’s efforts in improving the wellbeing of the
vulnerable in society while Child Fund–Zambia has appreciated the support it was receiving from government through line ministries in its implementation of projects which are aimed at poverty alleviation in communities.

Mr Mumba commended Child Fund–Zambia for supplementing government’s efforts in improving the wellbeing of the vulnerable people of Luangwa
through empowering them in different social and economic sectors.

Speaking when Child Fund–Zambia National Director, Dereje Adugna and Programme Manager, Godwin Nsofu,  paid a courtesy call on him in his
office, Mr Mumba said government appreciates the support it was receiving from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) such as child Fund–Zambia through its affiliate Luangwa Child Development Agency.

He said the district has benefited a lot from Child Fund–Zambia through the implementation of different programmes which are all aimed
at poverty alleviation and improving the wellbeing of the people in the area.

The District Commissioner said through Luangwa Child Development Agency, an affiliate of Chil dFund–Zambia, Luangwa district has
witnessed a lot of developmental projects such as sponsoring of
children to schools, mitigating the human/animal conflict by putting up solar fence wires in people’s fields and also in the provision of quality health in communities.

Mr Mumba said government alone cannot achieve in all these as it has a lot of programmes which need to be done countrywide hence the need
for cooperating partners such as Child Fund–Zambia to come on board and assist.

And Child Fund–Zambia National Director, Dereje Adugna, said his organisation appreciates the support it was receiving from government
through line ministries and pledged the organisation’s commitment in improving the wellbeing of the people.

Mr Adugna, who was on a familiarisation tour of projects being undertaken by Luangwa Child Development Agency, said his organization was happy to be associated with working with government in fighting poverty amongst communities.

He said Child Fund–Zambia, through the Luangwa Child Development Agency, with financial support from Child Fund–New Zealand and the New
Zealand Government, was in the process of putting up an irrigation scheme in Chief Mphuka’s area in an effort to improve food security in the district.

Meanwhile, Luangwa Child Development Agency Federation Manager,   Danford Makayi, also appreciated the support the Agency was receiving from the District Administration.

Dr Makayi said his agency, with the help of Child Fund–New Zealand and the New Zealand Government has funded a multi-million Kwacha
irrigation project in Kavalamanja and Yapite villages of Chief Mphuka’s area.

He said once the project was complete, the agency through Child Fund–Zambia, is positive that this will improve food security in the
district which is prone to droughts.
